In-game Tutorial Coming Soon!
I've heard your feedback, both good and bad, but one thing that stands out is the need for a tutorial!
While the demo was complete, I wanted to see how far new players would get into the game without a tutorial. This is my first game I've published and I have realised that launching with no tutorial whatsoever was a bad decision.
I hope that those of you who played the launch version of the game return once I have a tutorial in place so you can enjoy the full Swinghammer experience!
Blacksmithing 101:
- Open the store UI using the triangular tab on the far left.
- Use the sliders to select a length of steel - I recommend 3 or more.
- On PC, position the cursor so that the tips of the tongs are over the steel.
- Click and hold the steel and move your cursor to drag it around the workshop.
- Place the steel on the forge and release.
- Grab onto the bellows lever and drag it up and down to pump the bellows.
- The forge has a max temperature but it does gradually decrease in temperature if the bellows aren't pumped.
- The steel bar will turn red, orange and then yellow. This is as hot as it can go, the hotter the steel, the easier it is to forge!
- Next, place the steel on the anvil and grab the hammer by the bottom of it's handle and spin the hammer around.
- Try to strike the steel with the spinning hammer - this will take some practice!
- Once you're happy with the shape of your steel - or it is at the minimum width - reheat the steel to max temperature.
- You want to quench the steel next, this requires you to dunk the hot steel in the water barrel. The hotter the steel, the higher quality the quench will be!
- With your hardened steel, click on the grindstone to get it spinning.
- Drag the steel along the grindstone to sharpen it, making each section shiny.
- You've made a sword... or at least as far as you can in the current version! Well done!
- Time to sell your "sword', open the shop menu again and place the sword in the basket.
- If you followed these instructions to make a high quality sword then you should see a decent profit!
Other advice:
- Days are 2 minutes long, a talented blacksmith can make 4 swords in a day!
- Day 1 is half the length as it starts midday, this will change in the next update as time will be paused during the tutorial.
- Insurance starts at $15, this is taken out at the end of each day to cover your workshop for the next day. This means if you spend all your money on steel and don't turn a profit, you will go bankrupt!
- You can decrease insurance by saving up and purchasing upgrades, each upgrade lowers insurance by $5 and visually updates the workshop too!
- There is currently no implementation for the mysterious triangular too, this will be a hole punch used in the upcoming sword making steps.
- You can turn the flickering lights off in the accessibility settings.
- Scrolling in and out will zoom the camera between two set positions.
- I'd recommend downloading for the best performance, this avoids the browser freeze when playing on web.
